We’re looking forward to another great season of diving when the Similan islands open again in October. It was a very busy time last season (2016-17), both above the water and below.
The good boats are usually fully booked by around around mid-November, and last year they were then full for the entire season. There’s good reason… we’ve been seeing record numbers of mantas, as well as plenty of whale sharks and even the occasional orca!
In years gone by we used to get last minute offers throughout the Similans diving season, so it made sense to wait until you arrived here before looking for your perfect Similans safari. But in the last two years that has turned around completely. Not many boats have spaces that they need to full any more: they have waiting lists of people waiting for cancellations so that they can get on!
It makes our job harder, and your holiday less fulfilling, if we have to trawl around finding the last couple of spaces on boats that you wouldn’t necessarily have chosen, just to get you on a trip. So we want to give our divers incentive to book early. As if getting on the best possible boat, on the dates you really want wasn’t incentive enough already!
